TEES VALLEY UNLIMITED'S GARLANDS STATEMENT

Tees Valley Unlimited has today (Tuesday) pledged to throw its full support behind efforts to help Garlands staff after administrator Pricewaterhouse Coopers was called in.

Tees Valley Unlimited board member and Chief Executive of Business and Enterprise North East Alastair MacColl, said: “The announcement that Garlands has gone into administration, casting doubt over the futures of its 1,150 employees, is a huge blow.

“With contact centres in Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and South Shields, the impact of losing Garlands would be massive and felt across Tees Valley and the wider region.

“I understand Chey Garland has done everything in her power to protect the jobs of the workforce but with the loss of three major contracts to overseas companies, it simply wasn’t possible.

“The local authorities affected as well as business support staff from Tees Valley Unlimited and One North East have formed a response group which will be meeting with the administrators tomorrow to identify what options are available.

“We are all committed to doing everything in our power to help the company and each and every member of staff affected.”
