NUTRITIONAL FIRM BUILDING UP FOR EXPANSION
A COMPANY which makes food products for the sports nutrition and weight management sectors is looking at further expansion after enjoying a significant period of growth.
Glanbia Performance Nutrition in Middlesbrough has enjoyed over 50 per cent year on year growth, resulting in staff numbers increasing from 15 in 2005 to 50 now.
With further growth planned over the next couple of years, the company, which is based at Riverside Park, is targeting the creation of further jobs and additional investment from its Irish parent company.
Keith Burn, General Manager at Glanbia, said: "We've seen such high levels of growth over the past three years that staffing levels have more than trebled and we're now close to capacity in certain areas.
"So the next step for us is looking at how we take the business on. We are predicting further growth over the next couple of years and if we're to meet that growth we will need to identify ways in which we can expand the business through additional investment in Middlesbrough."
Glanbia Performance Nutrition makes bars, ready to mix powders and drinks for the sports nutrition and weight management markets and its customers include European market leaders in these sectors.
The company is now working with Tees Valley Unlimited, Middlesbrough Council and regional development agency One North East to look at how it can take its expansion plans forward.
John Leer, Head of Business Investment at Tees Valley Unlimited, said: "It's great to see a company like Glanbia, which has been based in Middlesbrough for a number of years, achieving such significant growth.
"With further investment and job creation predicted, we will be working closely with Glanbia management to ensure their plans are supported and the company is able to continue to grow in Tees Valley."
One North East Director of Business and Industry Ian Williams said: "I was pleased that One North East could support Glanbia with a Selective Finance for Investment grant of £200,000 and it's fantastic to see the company now going from strength to strength - I wish them the best of luck in the future."
Glanbia 36,000 sq ft site includes the manufacturing, warehousing and research and development teams.
Richard Dowson, Senior Business Development Officer at Middlesbrough Council, said: "Glanbia has positioned itself as one of the leading suppliers of nutritional and weight management foods and is an established employer in the town. I am delighted that we are working with them to bring more investment and jobs into Middlesbrough."
