Temenos to Inspire Pupils
More than 500 year 6 pupils (aged 10 - 11) took part in Teesside University's annual Meteor Summer School with the theme this year - Tees Valley Giants.
The programme is designed to inspire Tees Valley primary pupils to think about further and higher education through a series of activities on and off campus, culminating in a 'graduation' at Middlesbrough Town Hall.
This year they were thinking big, with an introduction to Temenos and the opportunity to design and build their own piece of public art.
TVR's Richard Buckley said: "Temenos is destined to become an instantly recognised glogal landmark but it is just as important to view it from a local perspective. The students have shown remarkable creativity and a good understanding of the value of such regeneration projects."
Jo Bulmer, Schools & Colleges Partnership Assistant at the University, added; "This is a really exciting opportunity for the Meteor pupils as we celebrate ten years since the first set of meteor graduations. It's was a totally different summer school working with Tees Valley Unlimited and the Arts Council to help raise awareness of public art. Who knows, there may be a future Temenos amongst this year's structures!"
