100 new jobs on line with cables factory
Nearly 100 jobs are being created at a cable factory at Hartlepool Docks.
JDR Cable Systems has spent £20m developing the 100,000 sq ft facility to make subsea power cables for the oil, gas and renewable market.
It has recruited 20 staff for the plant and expects to take on 70 more over the next 18 months and believes the business has potential to create another 100 as more work comes in.
Patrick Phelan, Managing Director of JDR, said: "The new JDR Hartlepool facility has been built in response to a significant growth in demand from customers for our products and a move to expand our offering to the renewable energy sector."
The site was officially opened by Iain Wright, MP for Hartlepool, he added: "JDR is a crucial supplier to the energy industry as well as a fantastic example of a well-managed, innovative company. I am delighted that Hartlepool has been chosen as the home of such an impressive facility. I am sure that the local economy and community will benefit from the factory for many years to come."
JDR's expansion to Hartlepool was supported by a 3850,000 Selective Finance for Investment grant from One North East.
TVR's Neil Kenley said; "JDR's expansion to Hartlepool not only represents the continued success of the company but also a huge confidence in the local area and local workforce.
"To attract a global organisation of this calibre in such difficult economic times speaks volumes for Tees Valley and TVR will continue to offer support and assistance for the benefit of everyone involved in this announcement."
