Development Moves Forward

Central Park, the ambitious scheme destined to transform part of Darlington continues to move forward with news of the next stage of development.

The project, led by Tees Valley Unlimited on behalf of partners Darlington Borough Council, One NorthEast and English Partnerships will deliver new homes, commercial facilities, a hotel, green space and a sculpture park.

Plans are already underway to relocate the council depot and the next stage of work will focus on an area of land next to the former railway yard where fencing will be erected to ensure the security of the site.

Central Park will be developed by a consortium of Commercial Estates Group, Yuill Homes and Keepmoat Homes. With investment of more than £180 million it will become the biggest development in Darlington for generations and secure a massive boost for the local economy.

The new Darlington College, a key part of the site opened for its third year last month and is now a thriving centre of education for students from the town and the wider Tees Valley.

Chief Executive of Tees Valley Unlimited, Joe Docherty said: "This is a very important scheme for Darlington and it will take time to pull it together. However, these small steps all lead to the ultimate outcome - a fantastic project providing homes and facilities for the people of the town."
