All On Board for Metro Plans

Plans for a Tees Valley Metro system remain on track as Tees Valley Unlimited continues to strengthen its business case for the forward thinking project.

The £140 million scheme currently under consideration would utilize both existing rail lines and introduce new tracks to create a rapid transport route linking Tees Valley town centres with outlying estates and ongoing regeneration projects.

Tees Valley Unlimited is constantly looking at ways of improving the economy of the Tees Valley and its attractiveness as a key destination, and as such a Metro system is certainly in the long term vision.

While there is still no guarantee that the project will happen, Tees Valley Unlimited has strong belief in the business case which it has submitted to the Department for Transport.

The core route proposed would initially run along the Darlington to Saltburn rail corridor, with at least four trains running an hour. High quality rolling stock carriages would offer greater comfort for passengers and in addition to the creation of new stations, those already existing en route would be upgraded as part of the multi million pound project.

To date all five Tees Valley local authorities have approved, in principle, local commitment to the Metro project providing a great opportunity to enhance a thriving area.
